BARBARA LEE
For more than 20 years, Barbara Lee has worked to increase women’s representation through her political office. She has helped elect the first woman Vice President of the United States, as well as 197 women in 33 states, including every current sitting woman Democratic Senator and Governor.
Statement from Barbara Lee,
President and Founder of the Barbara Lee Political Office
“Our ‘New Girls Network’ made history tonight! Tonight’s victories are indeed historic. Almost 250 years after John Adams drafted Massachusetts’s constitution, we have finally gone from ‘remembering the ladies’ to electing them! I am so grateful for the generations of women who got us here.
I am inspired by the slate of women who won tonight. Their victories will always be remembered by women and girls across our state.
When I met Governor-elect Maura Healey nearly two decades ago, I was so inspired by her intellect, compassion, and drive to make a difference that I asked her to run for office on the spot. Maura will be extraordinary as the first woman ever elected to serve as governor of Massachusetts. Tonight, Governor-elect Healey and Lt. Governor-elect Kim Driscoll became one of the all-woman tickets that made history in this election cycle.
Lt. Governor-elect Driscoll’s steady hand, developed during years of her executive experience, will be an invaluable asset to the Commonwealth. Andrea Campbell made history tonight as the first Black woman elected Attorney General of our state. Attorney General-elect Campbell is highly qualified, compassionate, and dedicated to our communities.
I can’t wait to see Governor Healey, Lt. Governor Driscoll, and Attorney General Campbell shine in their new roles as the top three executives of our state!”
